Stafford Hood is the Interim Associate Dean for Research and a Professor of
Counseling/Counseling Psychology in the College of Education at Arizona State
University where he teaches graduate courses in psychological testing, program
evaluation, and multicultural counseling. He is the founding Co-Director of
the annual national conference on the Relevance of Assessment and Culture in
Evaluation that is sponsored by the College of Education at Arizona State
University and he is the Principal Investigator for the Relevance of Culture in
Evaluation Institute that is currently being funded by the National Science
Foundation. He presently serves as the President of the American Educational
Research Association (AERA) SIG/Research Focus on Black Education and Co-Editor
of the AERA journal Educational Researcher Features Section. He is also a
member of the Educational Testing Service's Visiting Panel for Research, Los
Angeles Unified School District's African American Action Plan Advisory Panel,
and the American Indian Higher Education Consortium's “Building an Indigenous
Framework for STEM Evaluation” NSF Project. He was selected as a Fellow of the
American Council on Education in 2001.
Prior to his appointment at Arizona State University he served on the
Educational Psychology faculty at Northern Illinois University and as an
Assessment Specialist and Program Evaluator for the Illinois State Board of
Education (Springfield, Illinois). He holds a Bachelors Degree in Political
Science and Masters in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-
Whitewater and a doctorate in Education from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Hood's recent scholarly publications have primarily focused on the
importance of culture in educational assessment and program evaluation. He has
also served as a program evaluation and testing consultant to the federal
government, state departments of education, school districts, universities,
foundations, and regional educational laboratories.
