Elizabeth Lewis is a doctoral candidate in science education at Arizona State University in the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education's Division of Curriculum and Instruction. She has a B.S. in Geology from the College of William and Mary, a M.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Maine, a M.S. Education in Teaching and Learning from the University of Southern Maine, and is a National Board Certified teacher in Adolescent/Young Adult Science with a specialization in Earth & Space science. In 2001 she was awarded a National Board Certification grant from the state of Maine. In 2003, while teaching ninth-grade Earth & Space Science in Massachusetts, she was recognized by the state legislature as a "Distinguished Secondary Educator." Her interests include science teacher training and professional development, scientific literacy, and equity in science education. Her current research concerns how science teachers enact professional development in urban and suburban schools.
