Lirio Patton is a doctoral student in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Program, specializing in the Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education. Prior to enter graduate study she taught in Los Angeles public schools for over five years working primarily with Spanish bilingual students in grades K-5. Her research interests are in race and cultural identity. Lirio's master's thesis, "A Space to Be: Negotiating Identity Through Education," focuses on the impact that English-only legislation and high-stakes testing accountability policies have on young students' racial and cultural identity formations.
