Manuscript Submissions

Current Issues in Education (CIE) invites submissions that contribute to the expanding body of knowledge in education, as well as those that enhance dialogue between educators, policy makers, and the public. Articles addressing research, theory, current issues, and/or applied practice are appropriate for this journal.

Type of Articles that CIE Publishes

Manuscripts should be situated in a theoretically-based foundation, written in a clear manner, and accessible to all intended audiences.

Research studies should include the theory and previous research that provides a conceptual framework for the problem of interest, a methods section that describes the procedures involved in executing the study, a results section that presents evidence relevant to the purpose of the study, and a discussion section that relates to the research and theory presented in the introduction and discusses the implications and limitations of the results. Examples include, but are not limited to: experimental, quasi-experimental, narrative, ethnography, case studies, and mixed-methods designs.

A literature review should clearly indicate the educational relevance of the problem being presented. It should also present a new perspective of the current theory and previous research for expanding the knowledge of the problem space. Finally, it should contribute to the extant literature on the topic thus advancing the current corpus of educational science. Examples include, but are not limited to: literature reviews, meta-analyses, theoretical platforms.

Action research should clearly demonstrate a disciplined inquiry that includes procedures, measures, and outcomes. Reflection upon these should be demonstrated by the practitioner to highlight the efforts that improve practice through scientific approaches. Evidence of rigor and systematic procedures that inform decision-making for the improvement of the focus problem should be clearly stated. The work should help bridge the gap that lies between research and practice.

Regardless of the type of research article/literature review (when applicable) submitted, there should exist a logical and clear connection between undergirding theory, methodology, analytic methods, and conclusions/implications.

Preparation of the Manuscript

Submissions must be written in English, in American Psychological Association (APA) style 5th edition. Documents that are not written in APA style will be returned to the sender for reformatting. CIE provides a venue for scholarship that takes advantage of several aspects of emerging technologies. Therefore, there is no page limit to submissions and utilization of graphics; photographs, video streaming, as well as other technology formats are welcome. However, all graphics and photographs must be sent in *jpeg, *png, or *gif format.

Policy for Publishing Photographs and Video: Authors submitting photographs and/or video for publication must provide appropriate documentation that demonstrates they have obtained the appropriate permission from participants to publish the graphics. CIE will not be held responsible for graphics submitted for publication.

Additionally, all submissions must include a short abstract (100 words maximum). After the abstract, include a list of up to 7 key words that will be useful for indexing and searching.

CIE uses a blind review process with reviewers drawn from the extended educational community including educators, researchers, practitioners and graduate students. Information that might identify authors should not be included in the body of the document.

  • Do NOT include a title sheet. Manuscripts are blind reviewed so there should be no indication of the author(s) name on the pages.
  • For text, references and footnotes that refer to works written by one or more of the authors of the work being submitted, replace the author names, article title, and year with "Author" and year.
  • With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file by opening the document and selecting File > Save As > Tools (or Options with a Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties on save > Save or OK.

CIE uses a rolling publication schedule. The on-line format facilitates an accelerated publication process. As manuscripts are received, reviewed, and accepted, they will be published in a timely manner. Published articles are incorporated into a new issue tri-annually.

Manuscript Submissions

Authors should submit their manuscripts via our submissions portal at http://cie.asu.edu/ojs. Please register as an author and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

Submission of a manuscript indicates your commitment to publish with CIE. Authors submitting to CIE should not simultaneously submit the manuscript to another journal, nor should a very similar form of the manuscript have been published elsewhere.
